We are very, very excited to announce that our FIRST MUSIC VIDEO will be premiered on 21st Sept. This is a huge milestone to us since making a video has been a long-time plan for the band. But we couldn't agree more that the waiting was totally worth it!

We had the opportunity to shoot in the set of the internationally-acclaimed "The Raid 1: Redemption"; the building was 5 storey high and there was literally no electricity. So yes, indeed, we had to move all the sets and equipment on foot - climbing up and down the stairs - and in sheer darkness when the sun was out. You can say that we really had some exercise on the shooting day!

We arrived at 8 AM on the set and got ready as soon as we reached the 5th floor. The building was very cool-looking with ceilings full of holes, dusty floors and broken windows. The set was perfect for what we were aiming for. After we put on our costumes and makeup, we started shooting group shots. Up until then, you can say that the shooting was progressing rather smoothly until an unexpected thing happened. Since there was no electricity, we got the electricity on through a generator set that ran on fuels. Unfortunately, we ran out of fuels halfway the shooting. We sent two of our crews to find fuels, but did waste time waiting for the electricity to go back on.

Luckily, our director Victor improvised on the spot and shoot some footage on the rooftop only equipped with batteries (thank God for spare batteries) so in the end, from the power that got cut off, we got quite spectacular scenes in return with the natural lighting of the sun. We were also very lucky that there was no sign of rain on that day, the weather was very clear and bright, and it was a perfect day to shoot.

The electricity was back on when the sun was already setting, so there were some scenes that needed to be improvised on spot. But everything went on smoothly despite it all since everyone was in very high spirits, including the band, the director and the crews.

In the end of the day, we spent 14 hours in total and got out of the building at around 10 PM. We must had repeated playing the song for almost 60-80 times, it was crazy! The shooting was exhausting but we were very happy to have the experience. The excitement due to this being the first official Blodwen music video is overwhelming, and like mentioned before, the energy of everyone on set was astounding. We immediately made new friends and colleagues on spot.

The video will premiere on our official YouTube Channel (if you haven't subscribed, subscribe NOW!) and official website on 21st Sept. We CANNOT wait to show you the video! Just a few more weeks to the premiere, wish us every support and wait for it! \m/

"For A New World" To Be Made Blodwen First Video!!

5/8/2014

Goodness gracious... we CANNOT tell you how LONG we have waited for this. The time has finally come to take the band to a higher step. We are currently working on our first video clip! FINALLY!!

And this time we have gone past the planning stage and got the production scheduled (which will be in the older weeks of August). We will be collaborating with one of the most humble and talented Indonesian director, Victor Studiaminto. The guy is super cool, and he has been working under very huge names, including the production team of The Raid 2: Berandal, and also in one of the legendary Indonesian Blues guitarist Gideon Tengker music videos --- and that's just a few of his ever-growing stellar resume.

More updates coming up soon! Wish us luck and wait for more exciting news from us! \m/

We are very excited to finally share this news! The first single that we will release from our brand new 2nd album will be "For A New World"!! This song is inspired by 300: Rise of an Empire and a tribute to the goddess-of-death Artemisia. The song will have an epic feel and it's also the song that we submitted to the Indonesian Power Metal Compilation 2014 (don't forget to check out the TEASER for the compilation, we promise that it'll be full of, er, power! #badjokeintended).

Now let's talk about the album!

The new Blodwen album is currently on the last steps of recording process. We are going to release the artwork (that's again designed by our beautiful vocalist, Bernice) in the next few weeks alongside the title of the album. For those of you with good ears in your information pool, you would have probably heard that the album will be sort of a continuation from 'When Autumn Ends'. The album will be highly related to the EP, so those of you who have gotten a copy of 'When Autumn Ends' will definitely know what we are up to!

(Psst... we also left a hint on the album's title on one of Blodwen's Youtube videos...)

We also have another super exciting news to share to you soon, but until it's confirmed, we will hush. Until then!

For those of you who are active in our Facebook Page, you would know that we have just finished a gig in Bulungan Outdoor, Jakarta last Sunday. The event was "Gothic Black Fest 2014" with other local metal bands from different cities. There were more than 2000 people who came and we were astounded by the amount of passion and support they have for the underground bands.
Picture
We arrived at the venue in the evening, and was scheduled to play before Adzan Maghrib, but unfortunately, due to some technical problems, the scheduling has shifted and we ended up playing after Maghrib. The good thing was, this meant that there would be lighting effects!

Despite the overwhelming heat, the people who came were very high-spirited. We had a real good time in Gothic Black Fest 2014! \m/

Another Stellar Review from Metal-Temple!

It's always amusing to find out what people think about our releases, and different opinions and views are always great to read. But when we got our eyes on this particular review by Metal Temple, we were pleasantly surprised:
There are times when a Metal audiophile is taken aback by a discovery they have made, and this is one of them. With more material (which I hope they release soon!) I can see this band doing very well, not only for their local scene, but they sure deserve international attention.
Being compared to the sound of Stratovarius and Kamelot (Epica era) are just one of the things that make us smile when we read the review. And here's our favorite part:

10 vanilla doughnuts on fire with "MASTERPIECE" as it's caption? Y-E-S please!

Read the whole review HERE and make sure you check out their website as well! Metal Temple features writers from all over the world and they've got very interesting news and reviews everywhere!

Latest PRESS Reviews and Interviews of Blodwen

Our EP "When Autumn Ends" has reached MetalTalk and this is what they've got to say about the album:
Blodwen may be Indonesian but they have bought completely into the Celtic and norse influences of their main influences and this album sounds like another European female fronted symphonic Metal band with no eastern flavour to it at all... 'When Autumn Ends' is competent and often enjoyable but they are in danger of drowning in an ocean of similar sounding bands and need to find more identity to make them stand out.
A very sound and understandable concern; we liked the honesty and straight-forwardness of the review and accept all kinds of feedback for a better and distinct sound in the future!

Being an Asian band, this is something that we would have to face every time we release an album; we will be compared with 'real' European bands in terms of musical identity. We have never pretended to be something we're not, we are just very much influenced by classical music (which happens to evolve historically in Europe) and since almost everyone in Blodwen was a music student (some even classically trained), the main influence cannot be avoided. Although traditional Indonesian music has not been a trait of Blodwen since it was first founded, but . . . who knows? :) if you're interested, read the whole review HERE.

Another point of view from Tribe4Mian webzine:
Blodwen means “mountain white flower” in welsh, a name that points the orientation of their music: atmospheric epic metal with opera vocals by Bernice Nikki. Along with the folk and medieval scales which gifted guitarist Alexander Lexy follows, you get a dark yet impressionable combo free of senseless brutality and pretentious melancholy. Take for instance, “Blue Romance” a wonderful ballad which kicks off from Clannad’s soundscapes and develops into a theatrical epic, or the closing track “Riverfall” a power but delicate metal theme.
Wow, Clannad . . .  'Nuff said. Read it HERE.

Meanwhile, we got an opportunity to be interviewed by Lead The Youth Zine - a webzine dedicated to female metal musicians in Indonesia. This is something our vocalist, Bernice, has a lot of passion about. Not being a feminist or anything, but being respected as a musician and not a sex object has been a struggle for all female metal musicians since day zero. Increasing awareness to the issue, especially in our own country, is a first step to modernize the views of fellow local metalheads. And this is something we are very excited to be a part of.

Picture
We also got the opportunity to be featured and interviewed in Lost in Chaos Magazine issue #24 - which is a milestone on its own right. This independent magazine had to stop its printing on issue #23, which was a few years back for several reasons. But now the magazine, fronted by Chief Editor Herry Sic, is back and ready to kick ass. You can order the physical copy in the website link and support the revival of the magazine! Make sure you check them out!

PS) The interviews are all in Indonesian. But hey, there's Google Translate, no?
